Friday Fictioneers: Lake Of Horrors

How campy is that name? It sounds like a B horror movie from the ’50s.

It’s another Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Friday Fictioneers, which is a challenge to write a 100-word story inspired by the below photo prompt hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields.

Lake Of Horrors

From the dense trees, Jason looked out at the pair of young women in their swimsuits setting up by the water.

It was the kind of sweltering summer night in which the lake seems to beckon all comers with its refreshing powers.

Slowly, Jason crept out from his cover and onto the sand. He whispered, “Ki! Ki! Ki! Ma! Ma! Ma!” to himself as he eased toward the women. When he was close enough, he lunged and grabbed one of the girls.

She screamed, turned and slapped at her assailant. “Jason! You asshole! You scared the hell out of me.”

  1. Boys will be boys???? Big relief at the end when it’s all just a game, but I can’t dismiss a lingering uneasiness about Jason. I suspect there are some dark streams running deep in him to behave like that, even in fun. I do hope I’m wrong.
