Friday Fictioneers is hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who provides us with a photo prompt. Each week’s challenge is to write a 100-word story inspired by the photo. Click here to play along or just read more stories.
Meet The Fulkersons
Little Jimmy Fulkerson was running through the forest followed by his little sister named Delores.
Mariah Fulkerson, a kindergarten teacher, and John Fulkerson, a pediatrician, sat in the backyard, sipping lemonade, and enjoying the Saturday afternoon Florida sunshine. They were content with the playmate they found for their children.
Ralph was plump with rosy red cheeks. He was intelligent but socially awkward, a good fit for the Fulkerson children.
Jimmy and Delores entered the odd, ominous amalgamation of trees they called their fort. They were going to play doctor. Jimmy got out the scalpels. Ralph was shackled to a tree.
Cute little tykes

So much for poor, plump, rosy-cheeked Ralph!

It’s a little more sinister than that.

I was being deliberately understated 😉

I was reading thinking this reminds me of the stories I read as a kid. The ending hit hard. Not for children. Don’t try this at home kids. 😀

Nope, not at home. Take it out to the woods. 😈🏕🏞⛺

Whoa! Too soon. There are fires where I grew up, where I live, and where you live far too often. No playing with matches. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🚒🧯

Dear Nobbin,
Sounds like a charming little family. Closing my eyes. I can’t look. (well written story 😉 )

Good. I was going for the wholesome 50s sitcom family with a Dexter twist.

Oh my, turned dark so fast. Run, Ralph! But, very clever story!!

100 words doesn’t give us much time for the slow turn. I don’t think Ralph’s going anywhere. Thank you.

I completely understand the 100 word thing. Great twist!

The little horrors! Children can be really sweet but underneath they are possessed by the devil – at times.

Lovely little family, aren’t they? Wonder how often they need to find playmates…

With a kindergarten teacher and pediatrician in the house, they can find them as often as they need.
