Friday Fictioneers: The Master Baker’s Apprentice

Friday Fictioneers is hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who provides us with a photo prompt. Each week’s challenge is to write a 100-word story inspired by the photo. Click here to play along or just read more stories.

The Master Baker’s Apprentice

Leo was a master baker. The way he beat, kneaded, and manipulated his dough was transcendent.

Once every decade, Leo took on an apprentice. I beat out 15 other people for the honor.

On my first day, we made a gingerbread family complete with a cat and dog and a 30-year-old from dad’s previous marriage who still lives at home.

Leo sprinkled something on the mother. The cookie sat up and looked around. My mouth gaped as I stared.

Leo grabbed the cookie and bit off her head. I screamed.

“What? They taste better after they’ve been alive. Here try.”

      1. You’re right. I have a sisinlaw that is a vegan extreme… She wouldn’t eat an animal shaped cookie. She’s so thin and looks like death and then wonders why she can’t get pregnant….

  1. lol I started giggling at the 30-year old from dad’s previous marriage and then bringing them to life and biting their heads off? Macabre-esque kinda funny. And wondering what that says about me must mean it’s time for me to turn in! 🙂
