Morning Wood In Piss Alley
To calm my nerves before meeting her parents, Sae took me to Asadachi restaurant in Omoide Yokocho in Tokyo’s Shinjuku ward. We drank, ate, and drank until my nerves were as dull as Ben Stein, “Bueller? Bueller?…”
Sae detailed our adventure in Japanese. Laughter erupted. Noting my confusion, Sae’s father explained that while Omoide Yokocho translates as “memory alley,” it’s famously known as “Piss Alley.” Asadachi translates as “morning wood,” and the “stamina food” we ate consisted of raw frog, horse penis, pig testicles, and grilled salamander.
They expected Sae to be pregnant by morning. I expected to vomit.
This is not a picture of Piss Alley, but in trying to figure out where it was to have a setting for my story, I did an image search, which brought up Piss Alley. Piss Alley, morning wood, pig testicles, Penis Festival… I can work with that.
