The Calm After The Storm

There was no forecast, no cloud accumulation. That wasn’t unusual for these storms.

The thunder crashed and rattled the windows. Every gust of wind was more damaging than the last. Every bolt of lightning sparked a new fire. A torrent tore through the house. Even tucked away in the shadows, balled up in his shelter, Greg couldn’t hide from the rain that soaked his face.

Greg wished on every star twinkling bright that for just one night his parents wouldn’t fight.

When the sun came, and he saw the fallout of the storm, he wished he made a different wish.

  1. What an imaginative take on the prompt!. I love the way you have storm as reality alongside storm as metaphor, and then interweave the two at the end. Clever, sophisticated writing. Kudos!
