Friday Fictioneers: Must Do It.

Friday Fictioneers is hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who provides us with a photo prompt. Each week’s challenge is to write a 100-word story inspired by the photo. Click here to play along or just read more stories.

Must Do It.

“Must Do It?”

“It’s a parody of the Nike slogan ‘Just Do It.’”

“I don’t get it.”

“It’s saying we’re all slaves to advertising.”

“That’s not funny.”

“It’s not supposed to be funny. It’s social commentary. We’re constantly bombarded. We’re told what to buy, eat, watch, how to live, what makes us happy.”

“I’m not a slave to advertising.”

“How much was your new iPhone?”

“It’s only $13.30 per month over 30 months after trade-in.”

“Uh-huh. How do you know all those details off the top of your head?”

“What?”

“Advertising. We are but simple servants to our corporate overlords.”

    1. It’s amazing how adblockers and ad-free packages have opened my eyes to how omnipresent ads are. They’ve also eliminated my patience for them.

      Thank you!

  1. True. Very true. And yet, people wonder how a person who doesn’t watch tv, hasn’t opened a newspaper in years, and who tosses the ads that fill the mail before even glancing at them, is such a happy person. The “simple” life, that is, a life lived without the constant “need” to follow the media propaganda, is a good life. A happy life. A thankful life. A contented (in a good sense) life. There’s something to be said for that. 🙂 ❤ She sighs with contentment. Have a great week.`Shalom!

  2. Maybe I’m weird, but I pay no attention to ads. Not on TV, not on my computer or phone, not billboards or junk mail. I have absolutely no patience for it. I AdBlock as much as I can. Which is a lot. Advertisers are not making any money on me!
