Friday Fictioneers is hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who provides us with a photo prompt. Each week’s challenge is to write a 100-word story inspired by the photo. Click here to play along or just read more stories.

Must Do It.
“Must Do It?”
“It’s a parody of the Nike slogan ‘Just Do It.’”
“I don’t get it.”
“It’s saying we’re all slaves to advertising.”
“That’s not funny.”
“It’s not supposed to be funny. It’s social commentary. We’re constantly bombarded. We’re told what to buy, eat, watch, how to live, what makes us happy.”
“I’m not a slave to advertising.”
“How much was your new iPhone?”
“It’s only $13.30 per month over 30 months after trade-in.”
“Uh-huh. How do you know all those details off the top of your head?”
“What?”
“Advertising. We are but simple servants to our corporate overlords.”
I will obey

I had to look up the reference, but yeah, something like that.

A very neat parable about consumerism. True, too. Great take on the prompt.

Thank you, Penny. It is the sad state of our reality.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of truth in this. Fun story. Love that parody slogan.

More truth to this than there is in advertising, sadly. Thank you.

Ah do it. Sweet Nike, how that one is still stuck in my head whenever I procrastinate.

Have you ever seen the Shia LeBoeuf “Just Do It” motivational video? I wasted an hour watching people’s edits. It’s hilarious mixed with Batman Vs. Superman.

Dear Nobbin,
Too true to be funny. 😉 Snappy dialogue. Just one question. What do you have in your wallet?
Shalom,
Rochelle

Oops…I think that’s “What’s in your wallet?”

Close enough. I briefly considered trying to make all the dialogue slogans.

Don’t start me on advertising! If an ad irritates me I make a point never to do as they say, even if it’s the best choice!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah, I avoid them whenever possible, which isn’t often.

Oh yes, adv erts every-bloody-where even in the middle of your favourite song on youtube! So bleeping infuriating! Ha-hmm, great story!

I’ve had ads interrupt many videos but never… Can a group if cute, furry aliens defeat the tyrant who followed them to Earth? Find out in The L Squad by Nobbinmaug. … a song. That’s just rude.
Thanks, Mason.

Haha! That’s awesome! We should interrupt our comments with adverts for our stories like that more often!

I enjoy ignoring the adverts, and on the web casting/undertaking searches that will confuse the search engines

That’s a fun idea, except you still get ads just ones that make no sense for you.

It’s true, advertising is insidious and controlling.

Yes, that is our modern world , we give with one hand and work damn hard with the other hand, because Mr Advertisement entices our inner soul.

It might be more of a stranglehold than an enticement.

I loved this! We are indeed constantly bombarded and have been for a long time, we just didn’t realize it until now.

It’s amazing how adblockers and ad-free packages have opened my eyes to how omnipresent ads are. They’ve also eliminated my patience for them.
Thank you!

True. Very true. And yet, people wonder how a person who doesn’t watch tv, hasn’t opened a newspaper in years, and who tosses the ads that fill the mail before even glancing at them, is such a happy person. The “simple” life, that is, a life lived without the constant “need” to follow the media propaganda, is a good life. A happy life. A thankful life. A contented (in a good sense) life. There’s something to be said for that. 🙂 ❤ She sighs with contentment. Have a great week.`Shalom!

You sound like my mom. I try but find it impossible to avoid ads.

you can’t avoid them entirely, but when you see them as “fluff” and unimportant, it’s easier.

Maybe I’m weird, but I pay no attention to ads. Not on TV, not on my computer or phone, not billboards or junk mail. I have absolutely no patience for it. I AdBlock as much as I can. Which is a lot. Advertisers are not making any money on me!

Ooh, a natural AbBlock. I’m jealous. I try to block them out, but my subconscious is always open.
