A Crack In The Darkness

Thunder rumbled. Lights flickered. Lightning cracked the darkness.  Wind and dogs howled. Windows rattled. Rain crashed into the building.

Anabel and I got out her vast candle collection in preparation for the inevitable power outage. I thought we could turn it into a romantic evening. Anabel jumped and screamed every time the building shook. It wasn’t the type of screaming for which I was hoping. The 13th, I’m sorry, “14th” floor wasn’t the best place to feel secure during such a storm.

The storm wasn’t the scariest thing in the sky. The real terror lay behind the clouds.

      1. We will keep Zero. Someone asked my roommate, who is the breeder, how many she would keep from this litter. She said, “Zero.” I said, “Great! Which one’s named Zero.” It turned out to be the only girl, and she tweaked the spelling to Xero.

  1. Scary. Looks like they’ll have to take a rain check on their romantic evening. Better save the candles too. I don’t think whatever it is that’s on its way is going to restore the power any day soon.

  2. Does tomorrow morning lie beyond the clouds, with an “it’s not me, it’s you” moment? As if tonight isn’t bad enough already, with Anabel’s continuous jumping – and screaming for the wrong reason.
