Friday Fictioneers: Shedding

Friday Fictioneers is hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who provides us with a photo prompt. Each week’s challenge is to write a 100-word story inspired by the photo. Click here to play along or just read more stories.

Shedding

“Goddamn it, Russell! You can’t just hide out in that shed all day.”

“I’m not hiding. I’m working.”

“Working? You’re playing make-believe, chasing a fantasy.”

“She needs me.”

“I need you. We need you, your wife, your surviving children.”

With a slam of the door, he was gone, back to the shed, his workshop. He locked the door and caressed the machinery on his table.

“She’ll see when I go back in time and save Lizzy from that fire. Everything will be fine. She’ll be fine. It will be good again. She’ll see. She’ll see. Or maybe she won’t. Hahahaahahahaahahaha!”

I finished the third book in The L Squad trilogy last week, so I decided to finally start a YouTube page to read my stories. I’ve been meaning to do it for a long time. Videos will come out better when I learn how to use Audacity. It’s far different from the audio program I’ve used my entire life that no longer works.

      1. Ooh, that gets annoying. I sometimes have my dear mum decide to come in the office and start cleaning and hoovering. I have to dictate my stories so that really grates on the nerves!

      2. I have a joke in one. I’m building up to revealing a secret. “I’ll take out the garbage later. I’m working. Writing is a real job. Dang it! It typed all that. Where was I?”

      3. Yeah. I typed it. I went on to type “Delete. No don’t type ‘delete.’ Delete. Oh, never mind.” It’s just the joke about what we go through as writers. The joke’s not a joke if I don’t leave it in.

      4. I love that! to seperate it from the story you can always have it asterixed with an explanation at the bottom as well. Its a really fun insight into your life as an author isn’t it.

    1. Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you and thank you again. I’ve been meaning to do it for a long time. It’s time consuming. As you’ve probably already discovered, there’s only one video so far, and it’s not even a minute.

  1. Such a surprise twist at the end. I fear he’s not going to end well unless someone catches on to what’s really going on in the shed. However, I’m a great believer in time machines, and maybe, just maybe … 😉
