Friday Fictioneers: Red Phone

Friday Fictioneers is hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who provides us with a photo prompt. Each week’s challenge is to write a 100-word story inspired by the photo. Click here to play along or just read more stories.

There is an audio-only alternate version at the bottom because it pleases the Red Phone. It’s not a different story, but it has an alternate ending.

Red Phone

The Red Phone must be monitored around the clock. We’re shackled to this room by its cord. They feed us well, but I wish we could eat in more comfortable environs. Bathroom breaks are only allowed if there is someone left in the room to monitor the Red Phone.

These rules are never broken. To ensure that, the room is monitored. There are cameras in every corner and one in the center of the ceiling. Is the monitor room monitored? It seems likely.

What happens when the phone rings? Trust me, you don’t want to know.

Bbbrrrrrrrriiinggggg!!!!

God help us!

This is an alternate version that will rock and shock your perception of reality.

    1. Thank you. My original idea was doom and gloom, but the alternate ending embedded itself in my brain. I couldn’t decide which I liked better. Thank you again. The puppies love most people.
