The Magic Number
We met at the Boba spot. We started talking while awaiting our orders.
“Charlie and I are going for a walk in the park. Would you like to join us?”
“Charlie? You know, three’s a crowd.”
“I’ve heard three’s company, too.”
I pointed out the window to the little dog waiting in the car.
“Aah! I’d love to.”
As we walked, she talked to Charlie more than me. We three started to feel more like those two and me.
How did I take my dog for a walk and become the third wheel? At least I still have my Boba.

Boba Tea, a.k.a. Bubble Tea, is a milk tea with little tapioca balls. The tea comes in a variety of flavors as do the balls. My favorite is a chocolate chai a local Chinese restaurant here makes. It’s way better than the actual Boba places. I’ve heard of Boba described as orgasmic. I wouldn’t take it that far, but it’s good.
People who like animals are always like that~

Usually the dogs are a good conversation starter, but I’ve actually encountered people who will talk to them and ignore me.

I’ve met people like that too

Dear Nobbin,
I can’t blame her. Charlie’s adorable. 😉 Love this one.

The sad thing is this is based on a true story. I had a woman come up to us and start talking to Charlie. I tried to talk to her, but she completely ignored me. Thanks, Rochelle.

I don’t know. Dogs make for excellent translators.

Elbowed out by the dog – hope he hangs in there though, it could still work out!

I’d date Charlie. 😀
At least he had his Boba…

Are you threatening my Boba? I guess I’ll have to keep all Bobas where I can see them. Or maybe keep a firm grip on them.

Hmm you’re still talking about Boba as a beverage and not what the word really means? 😀

I have no doubt you’d be one of those who would ignore the guy in favor of the dog. Thank you.

That’s a good way to look at it. I wouldn’t want someone who didn’t like dogs.

Great story. Can’t say I’ve ever experience Boba, though. The Chai tea, as a frozen slushie drink is good.

Thank you.
Bobas come in a plethora of flavors. The chocolate Chai is the best I’ve had. I used to request a chocolate Chai blend at Starbucks that really good. This just adds the Boba to it. I love Chai, but I’m also a chocolate fiend.

Never have been much of a tapioca fan… Not even in pudding.

Good for Charlie. Nothing like a friendly King Charles to bring people together, I am sure Charlie had sensed a connection and was setting you up.

Charlie’s the best. She has been a good conversation starter.

Maybe instead of “love me, love my dog,” it’s the other way ’round 🙂

That’s a good way to look at it. Someone that charmed by Charlie would probably be a keeper.

Well, dogs love everyone until they’re given good reason not to!

One look at Charlie and I understand why her attention was focussed on him! (Not sure I like the idea of tapioca balls suspended in tea!) 🙂

It helps that Charlie’s a total diva. She walks around like “Charlie’s here!” and expects all the attention.
Not everybody likes the Boba, but I’ve been having a lot lately, so it made its way into the story.

We’re thinking along the same lines. Until I heard the alleged true story, I always wondered how Boba Fett was involved.

Mmm… Boba tea! Have you ever had an avocado one? I thought it sounded weird, but someone persuaded me to try it. It’s delicious!
A sweet, well-structured tale. I see a future for them… as dog daddy, dog sitter and Charlie. 😊

Finally, someone who’s not only heard of Boba, but actually enjoys them. I’ve seen avocado. I thought it sounded weird, but someone may have just persuaded me to try it.
Thank you.

Is that so unusual? People don’t know what they’re missing! It’s not as if we were talking about durian fruit. Now THAT’S an acquired taste that I haven’t acquired.
Yes, try it and let me know what you think.

Good story, Nobbin. Feels more real than fiction. Haven’t heard of Boba. How do you get to the what I’m guessing are candy pieces at the bottom? Charlie looks like he has short little legs. Can he keep up on a walk or do you end up picking him up? You made a mistake of bringing a friendly adorable furbaby. Next time bring a vicious biter with you and you can protect your date from him or her.

It’s not a true story but is inspired by true events. There was a time I was with Charlie, and a woman came up to us and spoke strictly with Charlie. I tried to talk to her, and she ignored me completely. Given our complete lack of summer thanks to COVID and smoke, I’ve been trying to get out more, which has often entailed getting a Boba and taking a dog to a park. I took all those ingredients and made this story.
Those are the Bobas at the bottom. They are tapioca-filled balls. They also come in jello and juice of a variety of flavors. The drink comes with the widest straw I’ve ever seen allowing access to the balls. I feel like a Boba commercial trying to explain them to everybody. They are really good. They come in a lot of flavors, but chocolate is my favorite as is true with most things that come in chocolate.
I go on fairly lengthy hikes, and I have a hard time keeping up with them. Troy pulls hard the whole way out and has to stop multiple times on the way back when it’s hot. Charlie will demand “packs” when it’s hot. Tori gets mad at me when I try to cut them short. It’s more a heat issue than distance. Thing isn’t fully grown, so she can’t go on the big hikes yet.

Ah, thanks for helping me understand. I wish they made Bobas around here. Maybe they do and I just don’t know it…

Charlie appreciates it. Her name confuses everybody. She’s gone to the vet while in heat, and vet techs have called her ‘him.’
