Friday Fictioneers is hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who provides us with a photo prompt. Each week’s challenge is to write a 100-word story inspired by the photo. Click here to play along or just read more stories.
Warehouse 13-C
“Let’s go. Let’s go. The cargo’s not gonna load itself.”
The admonition rang out through the warehouses.
I was still in my first week of loading duty. Typically a morning person, the midnight shift was rough for me. That’s how it was. The train came in in the middle of the night. We loaded it. It left for parts unknown.
Warehouse 13-C seemed to get the most attention. Not that I minded. It was the closest to the train, the easiest load.
“What’s up with 13-C?” I asked Decker, a warehouse veteran.
“Asian girls. They love their Asian girls.”
You’re good at dialogue. You and I had similar thoughts about those shady warehouses…

Thank you. Dialogue often helps me get and keep stories going. I’m going over to read yours now. I’ll compare and contrast.

I found Decker’s attirude horribly believable

I don’t know if “attirude” was intentional, but I like it.

Damn. I was so sure this was leading into sci-fi. Wham. What’s wrong with people? Ugh. Triggered.

I had a sci-fi ending trying to force me to write it in, but I resisted. Something in humanity’s genes is defective.
I didn’t mean to trigger you. Sit down, breathe into a paper bag, suck on your thumb, and don’t do anything for a month but complain about being triggered.

We could breed humans, like we do dogs. Only those with desirable traits can pass on genes and others… put out of their misery.
Wow, after all this time you think I’m a SJW… 😀

Didn’t Hitler try that?
Are you saying you’re not a Secret Jedi Warrior?

I don’t think Hitler targeted the scum though. Are you saying dangerous people like those in your story should be allowed to roam?

Hitler tried to create a super race by dictating who could breed with whom and eliminating those he viewed as inferior.
You lost me.

I wasn’t referring to an Aryan race, or Hilter for that matter. I was trying to say it might be nice if the humans could breed genes that promoted compassion and kindness. Violence and cruelty breed out. We already eliminate “inferior” foetuses with birth defects. Cruelty should be treated as a defect.

You were incredibly vague on what you wanted to breed out in your initial comment. With that accent of yours, you have to be very clear.

And yet your psyche jumped to the worse possible conclusion… 😀 Honestly, I thought your story was about sex trafficking.

It was about sex-trafficking. You started talking about selective breeding. I am so confused.

Grim but sadly true.

It’s sad when humanity’s depravity stretches beyond the reaches of the imagination.

Very well done. Such a disgusting business is that. Might have been better to not ask and not know…

I don’t think that’s a job one can do without some basic knowledge. It’d be hard to maintain ignorance. Thank you.

Dear Nobbin,
I really hated to “like” this. Too true and tragic.

Yeah, we need a “Disturbing” button. I’d like to see how high I could get one of those.

Nicely done, I wonder if the new recruit will call the police now he knows.

I don’t think they hire many law-abiding citizens. He’s probably more interested in self-preservation. Thank you.

It’s something that happens too often though we scarcely hear about it. Thank you.

And at the end we understand why the train arrives in the middle of the night and departs for parts unknown…

Yep. Only night people could be that shady.

I was intrigued until the last line hit hard. Well done.

I’m glad the last line is doing its job. If it’s not holding up the story, it all falls down. Thank you.
